Large nickel ore discovered in Xinjiang

URUMQI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — Geological workers have discovered a nickel ore, with nickel reserves of at least 1.28 million tonnes, in Ruoqiang county, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Ucore Says Department of Defense Agrees to Rare-Earth Study

Ucore Rare Metals Inc. (UCU) said today in a statement that a unit of the U.S. Department of Defense agreed to conduct a mineralogical and metallurgical study of the company’s Bokan Mountain rare-earth property in Alaska.

Exxon yet to inspect Afghanistan’s biggest oil project: minister

US Nickel and Zinc Imports Headed in Opposite Directions

JAPAN MAKES NEW ELEMENT

After spending nine years colliding zinc, which has 30 protons, with bismuth, which has 83, scientists from Japan say they have finally made the protons from two atoms stick together, creating a new synthetic element with 113 protons in the nucleus.

Russia’s Norilsk Nickel sees African opportunity
