Norilsk Nickel CFO Dmitry Kostoyev Steps Down

Russian mining giant, Norilsk Nickel (GMKN.RS), said Wednesday its chief financial officer Dmitry Kostoyev has resigned after four years on the job to pursue other projects.

 

He will be replaced by Sergei Malyshev, an executive from Energostroiinvest Holding Group, a large contracting firm that specializes in the energy sector, Norilsk said. He had previously worked as finance director at Lukoil-Chemical.

China’s iron ore demand to grow, say Vale boss Murilo Ferreira

VALE chief executive Murilo Ferreira has forecast China’s iron ore demand will keep rising for the next decade as the nation’s urbanisation continues.

Mr Ferreira said China’s iron ore demand could eventually hit 1 billion tonnes on the back of increased steel production.

Mergers set to create mining giants

A record wave of consolidation in China’s mining industry is creating bigger companies that will have the muscle to compete with the likes of BHP Billiton for overseas acquisitions.

Even after Chinese mining mergers reached US$19.6 billion last year, double the tally for 2011, the government wants to see more.

Easier access to capital and less Chinese competition for assets might make companies including China Minmetals Corp and Aluminium Corp of China more robust overseas buyers, said Deloitte & Touche.
