Single Chinese company owns 60% of world market for tantalum

China’s development of the corrosion-resistant metal tantalum commonly used in electronics has developed rapidly in recent years, owing to local manufacturers’ commitment to research and development efforts, the China Science Daily reports, with one factory having become particularly successful.

While over 40 Chinese manufacturers are currently in the business of chemical materials and knowhow for tantalum’s applications in electronic devices such as mobile phones, a factory in northern China accounts for about 60% of the global tantalum market, the report said.
